Broadcom wireless card installation
-
Hi every body!
I recently bought a pcengines Alix 2C3 with a 1GB CF. All works well but when I tried to install the driver of my mini pci broadcom wireless card with this method :
The first problem is that my system is an embedded one and I cannot install perl, iconv…
So I tried to convert windows drivers on a virtual machine but when I enter the sys file path I have this error message :
I don't recognize this file format. It may not be a valid .SYS file.
Do you have a solution?

Is your wireless card supported in FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE? If not, is it supported in 6.3-RELEASE (which the upcoming pfSense 1.2.1 will be based on)?
If the answer is 'no', then your best bet would be to get a supported wireless card, such as an Atheros card. NDIS emulation can sometimes be made to work, but it will never be as robust as a card with native FreeBSD support, and I don't know the procedure to follow. You certainly can't just install a Windows driver in the FreeBSD based pfSense.

Thanks for your answer. Where can I find a support list to check if my card is supported or to buy a supported one.

The FreeBSD 6.3-RELEASE i386 hardware notes are here (click). I can't see any Broadcom wireless cards on the list, but maybe I'm missing something.
If you need a supported wireless card, the usual advice is to buy an Atheros wireless card. If you say where you are in the world, someone can probably point you to a source. It shouldn't be too expensive.

Thanks for your reply, I'm french, I found some Atheros card on ebay, not very expansive and fully compatible with Freebsd. I'll trie with this solution.
