Crashes after upgrading to 2.2.5
-
Hi all,
One of my customers with a pair of pfsense VMs in a cluster we have moved to 2.2.5 as it solved an issue with keeping a VPN tunnel up (or so we thought).
Now we're periodically (once a day or every other day or so) experiencing pfsense crashes on the main instance, which recovers itself but doesn't recover the VPN service. i.e. the only way we know it's crashed (since we have a failover cluster) is to log in, at which point it notifies us we've had a crash and asks about sending the crash dumps.
I've had 3 of these dumps so far, and sent them all through - but the question is, what happens to them once they've been sent through and how do I get the problem of the crashing fixed? (i'd be happy with the VPN service just being made to restart following a crash recovery at this point to be honest, as the customer's already becoming shouty).
Thanks,
Mike. -
nothing happens with them unless you ask the devs to look at them.
or you could post them here, and ask in the forum

The Service Watchdog package won't restart your OpenVPN instance?

My problem is that the process of sending the logs for reporting asks if you want to delete them, which I have been doing since I was under the impression they were being sent to pfsense towers where they would pore over the logs and provide a hotfix or similar.
Guess I was wrong - how do I flag up specific logs that have been sent to pfsense and deleted now that I need them to work on a fix for a specific issue?

I wasn't even aware that such a package existed - let alone that it was optional. I was under the impression that when pfsense reported a crash it would have attempted to restart whatever had crashed….it appears not. I've installed it now - thanks!

Would have to know what IP the crash reports came from to tell. The IP you're coming to the forum from doesn't have any.
