Enable PoE Port
-
Hello,
So I've recently built a PFSense box and inside it I've installed a Startech 4 port PCIe PoE NIC, the idea behind going with a PoE Nic was so I could power a UniFI AP next to the box without an injector. I've got the NIC all working properly but I have no idea how to enable PoE power. Is this a thing you can do PFSense or would I have to use a external power source?
Thanks,
Niall -
The question is more likely… does the FreeBSD driver support enabling PoE on the port(s).
Since the FreeBSD Hardware list doesn't mention anything from "Startech", what do the interfaces show up as (i.e. re0, igb0, en0, etc.)? That will help identify the driver being used for the interfaces on the card.

UniFi AP's are not 802.3af natively remember.

That depends on the AP model used. Their current AC-Pro model does support both 802.3af (PoE) and 802.3at (PoE+). I do see that their two lower models don't, though.

That's right, forgot about that one!
