      Hi everyone,

This will be my first pfSense build after some FreeNAS.

My usage will be OpenVPN, some port forwarding for servers (Zimbra), Torrents and Gaming.

What do you think of this ? Is it fully supported ? :

      • ASRock E3C236D4U : http://www.asrockrack.com/general/productdetail.asp?Model=E3C236D4U#Specifications
      • Intel Xeon E3-1225V5 (3.3 GHz)
      • Crucial DDR4 8 Go (2 x 4 Go) 2133 MHz CL15 ECC SR X8

Can I just use the 2 x RJ45 GLAN by Intel® i210 or should I use other Intel PCI EXPRESS Card ?

      FYI, I will use this case - X-CASE D-214-MATX 2U SHORT RACKMOUNT CASE : https://www.xcase.co.uk/2u-rackmount-server-cases/x-case-d-214-matx-2u-short-rackmount-case-aluminium-front-panel-2-x-3-5-internal-5-25-external-39-00-x-case.html

Good lord that is a lot of CPU for a router. How fast of a connection do you have?

The 2 on board NIC's will be fine for basic LAN/WAN setup.

What would you recommend instead ?
I will be using OpenVPN, HAVP and maybe some more packages.

          Ok, thanks.

Depends on how fast your connection is and how many packages you plan on running.

Squid & SquidGuard & Snort & HAVP & pfBlockerNG may like a fully UTM device and if something
of the throughput should be coming out on the LAN side it is not really to powerful. It is likes a
intel Core i3, i5 or i7 but with more power savings.

@Jailer : I have a 100 Mb/s cable connection. But should be upgraded to fiber soon.

Will a Supermicro A1SAi-2550F be more appropriate ?

What packets do you want to install?
What services do you want to run?
How many users or devices must be sorted?
Is WiFi a point to talk about?
                  Is VPN in usage?

Pointed to pfSense I would more go with a C2x58 (rangeley) then an Avaton platform.
AES-NI and Intel QuickAssist would be the way to go. Take the C2558 rangeley and 8 GB of RAM.
