Redirecting URL to local WSUS server for computers not on the Domain
-
Hello, I have read a lot of articles on how to re-direct URL's in PfSENSE. Here is my situation (please let me know if you think this will work)
I have a small computer business and frequentley get laptops to update windows and patches on. This takes forever. SO what i did was:
- install a 2012 R2 Standard and added the WSUS roll (the server is not a DC. all DHCP and DNS takes place on my pfsense firewall
- I downloaded all updates for all windows 7,8 and 10 products.
Question…...
If i create a URL redirect (is that what it is called?) in Pfsense, and point the following URL to my local WSUS server, excluding the actual WSUS server from the rule (so it can still go out and get updates) , this in theory should work ??
URL to redirect:

Uhm. Nope. You need to point clients to WSUS via GPO. Or regedit: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc720464.aspx
