Beta is Beta

  • Developer Netgate

I would like to sincerely thank all those who have helped to get pfSense 2.3 where it is today. Many people have expended huge mounts of effort to improve the system. People have added new display functionality, cleaned up old HTML, internationalized the text, made the appearance (and the underlying code) more consistent, useful and readable as well as laying a foundation for what is to come.

I really think we have moved from "Why change something that works?" to "How did we ever use it before this?" :)

Now the time has come to be serious about what Beta status means, so for version 2.3 we can accept no more pull requests that add new features or address the display style. If we don't take this step, the target will keep moving and the first release candidate will keep getting kicked down the road.

So please keep those bug reports (and the PRs that fix them) coming, but no more new features for this version. Before you know it pfSense 2.3 will be formally released and we can start accepting your ideas for 2.3.1 - It may be time for a new forum category just for that.

Thanks again for all of the help. It is so appreciated.

  • So release is near :)

But I really, I mean really hope that new graphs will make it to release :)

    P.S.
Thanks to all for your hard work that we can use this awesome free product.

I believe that wish may be granted :)

    For some values of near.

It's still on the list.  Still working on it.  See, for example: https://i.imgur.com/eOGOBMb.png

That last screenshot was the first time pulling in RRD data and a lot of things are still just tacked in place for development, but it shows the gist.

Here is another teaser I took a little before that was using some dummy data: http://i.imgur.com/HvKAz2W.gifv

  • Very pretty.  Hopefully the filter panel can be collapsed or something to get it out of the way when not required.

  • internationalized the text

I believe I have internationalized everything relevant that I can see in /usr/local/www… and did some of /etc/inc files (a through i) that I submitted last night and has been merged. I hope to finish looking through /etc/inc today and tomorrow. At that point I believe the gettext() strings for translation will be stable and whoever cares in Brazil and Turkey can take a spin through and translate anything outstanding that they care about.

Edit/add: My internationalization effort is done. The strings for translation should be quite stable now for anybody who is updating the translations.

I am pretty sure that won't be an issue, I'll have to ping Steve_B on the best way to do that.

  • Very cool!
Will traffic graph widget also be new? I think it was something that was considered?
    Thanks!

  • Very, very nice.  A huge improvement.  Thank you.

Now if only we could have a choice of date format that would apply everywhere in pfSense.

Yeah, I was under the impression that most of IT already switched to the only valid international date format, which is:  year-month-day
    Sadly not.

This is really great, many thanks for your hard work!
And I wasn't even born when you recorded those screens. ;)

Got my vote for this one. Love to see dates in format we use locally.

You don't seem to understand what "in development" means. Look carefully for when the mouse overs over a line, it is in the international date format. The X axis is obviously broken at this time.

I looked at the screen recording again and, yes, there was a fraction of a second where I could see the date in int'l format. Good.
Don't find it obvious that the x axis is broken. Looks like plain english metrics.

That aside: The optics you created are stunning!
