      Hello,

      I'm looking to move my home network away from a fortiwifi, which is a firewall with a built-in AP. I have 2 reasons: I can't expense the fortinet subscription anymore, and the built-in wireless AP is TERRIBLE.

      I've been looking into PFSense and seriously considering checking out the Netgate 2100. Are there any wireless AP brands, or specific devices, that integrate with PFSense?

      Either way, I'd also love to hear some recommendations on wireless APs that'd work well for a small house.

      Thanks!

        Using an external AP will give you far better results then anything in the router. I personally use a Ubiquiti UniFi AC LR which I find works great. I have installed OpenWRT on it though as I found running the Unifi controller was a pointless exercise for my use.

        If, for some reason, you need to run a wifi card in the 2100 the Compex WLE200NX will work in it. That's the only card I know will work but like all cards supported by FreeBSD, and hence pfSense, it's limited to 802.11n. There is no .ac support. So use an external AP. 😉

            @bugman

            Avoid TP-Link. Some of their gear has problems with VLANs. I have a Unifi AC-Lite AP.

            PfSense running on Qotom mini PC
            i5 CPU, 4 GB memory, 32 GB SSD & 4 Intel Gb Ethernet ports.
            UniFi AC-Lite access point

            I haven't lost my mind. It's around here...somewhere...
