As the title says. I am using the net-snmp package. I can do an snmpwalk against my LAN ip address if I run the command on the local router being queried, so I know the service is running.

However, a query from a remote system in a separate subnet (the remote system has connectivity through site to site VPN connection) ends in a timeout. I know that the included bsnmpd daemon will work fine across a VPN (I tested this). However, I prefer to have the security of net-snmp, wondering if anyone has encountered this issue and what the cause might be?

For posterity, I may have solved this issue.

What I am finding is that relying on the default values in the net-snmp daemon's configuration gui for interface binding does not work well. It's possible that the default behavior is to bind to a loopback adapter or something of that nature.

Specifying my router's ip address in its management vlan and port number resolves the issue.
