TNSR Hardware recommendations for 10-40gb routing in home network
-
Happy New year,
Im planning to upgrade parts of my Home network to 10gbit in the near future. Somebody in reddit told me to take a look at TNSR. Quite impressed about this, I may want to use TNSR as my LAN Router and pfsense as my Wan Router and maybe replace pfsense completely after I have more experience with tnsr.
Faster than 1gbit Wan speed can be expected in some years in my area, so for now routing in my Home network would be the main use of tnsr.
So my question is, what Hardware I should best use for now to Route 10gbe and in the future 40gbe?
Are slowest Xeon e3 v2 processor already capable of handling this load?
The setup should at least be able to transfer data between 2*2 devices and still be able to provide enough bandwidth on the Wan side for a 5th device at 1gbit.
I couldn't yet find an example build of tnsr Hardware, so im asking here. I assume it should be at least a 4core cpu with pci-e 3.0 or better 4.0.
Mayve somebody could give me a General guide line which Kind of cpu and or System I should use. Perferrably I would build or buy some 1u Server blade.
