      Hello community!

As I show in the image below I have a separate incoming IP TV connection and it is not the same as my incoming internet connection. I would like to pass through that IPTV by wrapping it in a VLAN and then giving that to my TV Box.

I am guessing I need to create a new VLAN 87 in pfsense for this to work?

What should I set the VLAN IPv4 Configuration Type to in pfsense? The TVBOX is supposed to get its ip address from the IPTV-port using DHCP.

Is this a good idea or should I try to put the IPTV through my OPT1 port on the SG-3100 somehow?

I am grateful for any help or input!

      Regards,
      mat

@matanl you can for sure use your switching infrastructure for a vlan like you have drawn. Nothing wrong with that.. Pfsense as you have it drawn would not be involved in that network in any way shape or form.

There is no reason to setup that vlan at all in pfsense.. Your just creating a vlan on your switches. Why does pfsense need to know or care about that at all?

@johnpoz Thank you! Ok, yes that makes sense. I will try this when I get the equipment.

What will pfsense do if it gets an unknown VLAN id from my switch? Will it just ignore that VLAN?

@matanl how would it ever get that.. From your drawing there is no way pfsense would ever see any traffic from that vlan..
