Captive portal Radius Mac authentication
-
Hello to all.
Let me tell you right now, I am from Russia. But I was advised to come here. And so my problem is:
I have PFsense 2.5.2. CAPTIVE PORTAL is configured on it, which determines by MAC address whether the client can access the Internet or not. There was a task to organize authorization through MAC RADIUS. But during authorization, PFsense sends data that does not correspond to what the RADIUS SERVER is waiting for.
If I go to Diagnostics/Authentication and try to login using the MAC address as username and password, everything is fine. But when I try to connect a router with the same MAC address to the network, I see the Mac authentication failed error.
How can I make Pfsense send MAC address as login and password?

@spics Have you tried changing your authentication method to RADIUS MAC?
-
@worlddrknss yes, but i get the same problem. Left it like that because I was going through the options.
-
Any ideas?
-
@spics you can't
The captive portal has been designed to send the Mac as login and a custom value (a pre shared secret) as password.
Please update your radius configuration accordingly

and, update also pfSense itself, it' "2.6.0" these days.
When done, see this thread : https://forum.netgate.com/topic/171351/needed-configuration-for-captive-portal-mac-authentication-using-freeradius-macs-tab/2?_=1649259637873 which looks like your question "Needed Configuration for Captive portal MAC Authentication using Freeradius MACs tab".
I'm not sure that what has been said over there is also valid for old version like 2.5.2.
Maybe it is. Maybe not.
