    What causes WAN traffic 'Destination' to be IP of LAN host rather than WAN IP?

        @reg_ed What exactly are you seeing - show us the logs, or the sniffs.

        How do you have stuff connected. If pfsense wan is some public IP, then there is no way some rfc1918 from the internet could be directed towards your wan interface.

        Please post this traffic your seeing - it very well could just be broadcast noise on wan from other clients on your isp.

          Oops, I had an inbound NAT rule still enabled from an earlier round of testing. False alarm!
