What is surprising is that during the first PPOE reconnect, the dynamic IPV6 addresses are removed from the track interface. Then each track interface (VLAN) is assigned new IPV6 addresses from the prefix pool. The IPV6 connectivity remains - that's how it should be. Then a second PPOE reconnect happens which results in !no track interface (VLAN) losing its dynamic prefix. Then the pfsense tries to assign new IPV6 addresses from the pool, but this does not work. (Because IPV6 address were not "cleaned" before). Consequence: IPV6 connection on all interfaces, except on the WAN interface are lost. Then the web interface gets a timeout (504 gateway time-out) and does not respond to any webgui calls.

A side effect is that retrieving the update status via IPV6 in the pfsense is not possible. Only after setting "prefer ipv4 over ipv6" the update status/branch retrieval works. This shows me that there must be a defect somewhere in the pfsense. But my knowledge is not sufficient for this.

It must be said that otherwise the IPV6 connection via Telekom ISP and track interface works fine, until it comes to a "double" reconnect.
The retrieval of the update status does not work permanently via IPV6.

@nowa-it said in pfsense 2.6 lost ipv6 connection on trackinterfaces after two gateway reconnects:

Then a second PPOE reconnect happens which results in !no track interface (VLAN) losing its dynamic prefix.

Why there is a second reconnect in the first place, I would like to know.

I noticed the behavior after trying to identify problems that cause IPV6 connection loss on WLAN clients.
Which in the end caused a multicast setting. (Problem solved).
For testing purposes I "let" the ppoe connection drop and reconnect several times. In doing so, I noticed the undesirable behavior on the second reconnect attempt, which is described above.

Don't forget to upvote 👍 those who kindly offered their time and brainpower to help you!

If you're interested, I'm available to discuss details of German-speaking paid support (for companies) if needed.
