I just updated pfsense 2.2.6 with squid on it to 2.3.2. During the pfsense update the squid package got updated as well.

Now after the update the squid service was stopped, so I went to status -> services, started the service manually but after a few seconds the service stops.

I did this a couple of times but every time the service runs for a few seconds and stops.

I uninstalled the packed, reinstalled but no luck and squid keeps starting and stopping.

I noticed the squid package installs some dependencies such as 'ICAP Inteface for Squid and ClamAV integration' and 'ClamAV Antivirus'. These won't even start when I start them manually. Probably this is causing squid to stop but I'm not sure.
Either way I have no idea how to fix any of this.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cause it seems I need a PhD just to get a service running, never mind configuring it. Had no problems on pfsense 2.2.6

Two hours of running around in circles and I figured it out myself: simply clearing the squid cache fixes the problem. ugh.

In the pfsense webGUI go to services -> squid proxy server -> local cache; scroll down and hit the 'clear disk cache NOW' button.
