Daisy Chaining Switches w/ VLAN's

Trying to think through the routing and placement of my network gear before I finalize purchase. One of the challenges I face is that while the house has wired drops, they all land in the garage that is not temperature controlled. So I am trying to limit the gear I have to place in the garage.
One solution is to place the router in the living room. For the most part I like this idea, except it creates a daisy chain in the switching. See attached diagram.
I might add that I have a fireplace with built in cabinets on each side, and would use both sides. One side would primarily hold the network equipment and have 1 port for future use open. The opposite side would use a 4-port switch to feed my A/V equipment.
I've not used VLAN's in the past, but plan to do so this go round for added security. I am not quite sure how this would affect the VLAN's but it seems problematic to my inexperienced networking brain.
Appreciate any feedback & guidance you can provide.

@sledge As long as your switches are managed you would just trunk the uplinks and they'll carry the vlans with no problem.
