Just looking to find out the best setting for both performance and security doing a site-to-site OpenVPN with one side running 2.6.0 and other is 2.4.5 (will be upgraded soon once I can reimage the appliance).

Tried a variety of settings to see if there was a performance increase using iperf but they all seemed similar.

@rustydusty1717 While logically it should help, in practice it is recommended to disable compression.

Pre-2.7.2/23.09: Only install packages for your version, or risk breaking it. Select your branch in System/Update/Update Settings.
When upgrading, allow 10-15 minutes to restart, or more depending on packages and device speed.

          allow-compression asym

It looks like compression will get depreciated.

For pfSense , the setting will be
