    Hello All,

I have a SG-2440 that has been up for 2 weeks now. I have followed all of the youtube guides that I can find to setup squid3 and squid-guard. Everything seems to be working except this. The squid cache log on the status page only shows entries with the date 31.12.1969 and nothing else.

    Thanks,

    Erik

You really need to stop living in the past  ;D

Is the current date/time correct in the WebGUI dashboard?  From the pfSense console, what's the output of the date command?

I have the exact same issue, "31.12.1969 16:00:00" and the message column is blank as well.

date command at the terminal shows correct date and time.

Well look at that, me too.  I hadn't noticed before since cache.log is mostly useless, and when you do need it the real time doesn't matter.  Access.log is where the action is!

@kom the date and time on the dadhboard is correct. Which log in the UI do I find the squid action in? None of the options in Status -> System Logs appear to the related to squid. Also since I am new to this, a blank screen may be squid not actually keeping a cache.

Access.log, like I said.  In the GUI it's called Squid Access Table in the Real Time view.  Cache.log just gives details about some squid internals, but it appears to be bugged out in the GUI since there is no content shown.  If oyu look at the real file, it has contents like this:

              2016-10-06 08:19:20 [40798] init domainlist /var/db/squidGuard/blk_BL_webtv/domains
              2016-10-06 08:19:20 [40798] loading dbfile /var/db/squidGuard/blk_BL_webtv/domains.db
              2016-10-06 08:19:20 [40798] init urllist /var/db/squidGuard/blk_BL_webtv/urls
              2016-10-06 08:19:20 [40798] loading dbfile /var/db/squidGuard/blk_BL_webtv/urls.db

If I understand, I need to drop to the console to view the log? I'll file a bug for the UI. Can I ask a side question. Since I have a limited storage appliance, can I plug in a USB-HDD or connect a FreeNAS via NFS to use cache storage?

Sure.  Lots of people add a second disk just for squid.  Check the FreeBSD docs for how to mount it at boot and then just modify squid's cache dir setting to the new mount.

whats the path to the Squid logs?

                    /var/squid/logs

When squid start's new SSL control helper's they show up there with correct date and time.

That is what mine show's anyway.

                          @impatient

I have the same issue is there any solution to fixing this in a Netgate 2100 max? Everthing else works caching url blocking Clam AV SSL intercept and Clam AV. This log just shows 1969

After the helper starts or clear cache is ran it shows the right date and after it goes right back to 1969
