Hyper-V instance stops passing traffic after 5 minutes

It seems no matter what version (2.3.2, 2.2.6), architecture (i386 or AMD64), NICs (legacy or regular network adapter), within 5 minutes my computer in the LAN cannot ping the WAN gateway and beyond. I can ping the WAN interface from the LAN but nothing beyond it.
Being a mild newb when it comes to Linux, where do I even start with this?

For the start - learn the difference between FreeBSD (and BSD in general) and Linux flavors.

This is clearly not a problem with pfSense. Or your provider blocks packets from other MACs (google "port security"), or any other reason.
Please provide network diagram/scheme, with IPs and networks, this help a lot in understanding your setup.

Try not using a legacy adapter. Add a "Standard" network adapter in external mode in R.
As others had said, sounds like an ISP problem.
