Google Meet going through my VPN connection.

@moadmin
Which VPN? Why are you routing the whole upstream traffic through? -
We use OpenVPN running of pfsense.
I haven't set the configs for this server. also im like 5 months old in the company so not sure of the current configs, but all i know is the google meet is going through our VPN connection and we dont want that. -
@moadmin
What's the purpose of this VPN??And again, why is the whole upstream traffic routed to the VPN server?
-
The purpose of this VPN is to have a secured remote access to our internal network and resources :)
It has been configured like that from a previous employee that dont work for the company anymore..
all traffic is going through VPN with certain deny/block rules to some port/ip addresses.
i know its wrong and it shouldn't be like that. we will change this eventually but i need to work with what i have now. :(

@moadmin
So configure it for split-tunneling instead.Go into the server settings and remove the check from "Redirect gateway" (IPv4 + IPv6 if used).
Then enter your local networks, which should be routed over the VPN into the "Remote network/s" box in CIDR notation. Multiple networks have to be separated by commas. -

Some companies require using a VPN when away from the office.

@jknott
Ah really?
It was absolutely unclear from his first post if he is running a client or a server. To avoid using the VPN as default gateway is different for both cases.
-
I'm not saying that's what's happening, but it's definitely a possibility. The 2nd time I was working at IBM, I was supporting users in a large corporation. They had a VPN on the notebook computers and could not access the company network without it.
However, it's up to @moadmin to provide the relevant details of the situation.
-
@jknott
All right. If you read the thread, I think, you can see that I tried hard to get the relevant details.
Even if the run a server as I got from the first answer, it could be a requirement of the company to route the whole upstream traffic over the VPN, e.g. for filtering.
In this case it was more difficult to exclude Google Meet. -
Update: OK so I can confirm that not all traffic is going through the VPN. and also Google meet is not going through the VPN as well, i tested this with tracert command while connected and disconnected to VPN. both gave the same result and IP addresses during the Hops. However theres something else has to do with the VPN thats causing Google meet to keep dropping and poor video calls. because whenever we turn off VPN and use it its all smooth and fine. but with VPN on it choppy and bad quality.
My question is: where do i look now? what to check ? -
@moadmin
Hey guys, can i get any suggestion on this, its still happening even with split tunnel config.
When VPN is on and connected, google meet calls are choppy and distorted, when we turn it off the video is smooth and in good quality.
This happened after we updated our pfsense to 2.6.
