SquidGuard causes timeouts

Hi all,
I first installed squid. I added two urls to its blacklist and verified they are blocked.
Then I installed squidGuard. Unfortunately not one website I visit now gets loaded, everything times out…I tried: reinstalling, rebooting pfsense, checked the log files, checked various settings, etc, etc.
In the squidguard logs , there are no entries in the blocked category. The filter log states "squidGuard ready for requests (1480580822.118)", but get only timeouts.Any suggestions?

What is your Default access [all] set to in the Common ACL?

But btw, also tested a smaller subset, made no difference…
