      I am running NordVPN on my firewall. Over the last month my family have complained of loss of Internet, sometimes just brief periods of time, once was for a few hours. It appears that I lost the VPN gateway but the regular WAN was still connected. I assume, then, the issue is losing connection briefly to the VPN server.

      Is there a way to make a 2nd VPN gateway and make a rule to try the other gateway should the first fail? Can I just have it use the WAN gateway instead? Other suggestions?

        @larryjb When it goes down what's the status of the Gateway?

        Status->Gateways

          @rcoleman-netgate I'll have to check next time I'm around when it goes down. The last few times I was away. In the logs I could see that it seemed to have trouble connecting to the VPN. Unfortunately I cant find a way to export the firewall logs.

            I don't know if this helps or not, but I am getting a lot of these errors on the Gateways logs:
            Apr 22 22:03:57 dpinger 35698 NORDVPN_CANADA_VPNV4 10.7.0.1: sendto error: 55

            This log occurred about 15 times throughout the night, about 6 times in the 22:03-22:04 time range, and then again in the 06:41-06:42 time range about 10 times.

            I also have this log entry:
            Apr 22 19:30:47 dpinger 35698 NORDVPN_CANADA_VPNV4 10.7.0.1: Alarm latency 19876us stddev 9881us loss 22%

              @larryjb said in lntermittent oss of Internet when using VPN:

              sendto error: 55

              https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/troubleshooting/gateway-errors.html#sendto-error-55

              What hardware are you running?

              What release of pfSense?

              The suggestion here is a bug - there may be an associated redmine.

              System Patches might be your solution here, too: https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/development/system-patches.html

                @rcoleman-netgate

                Been busy, and Internet seemed stable for the last couple of months. The last couple of days it as been acting up again.
                The WAN gateway is showing packetloss: WAN_DHCP 38.13.74.19 340.8ms
                9.0ms 13% Warning: Packetloss

                Sometimes the packet loss was occurring on the NordVPN gateway instead, but I couldn't capture it yet.

                I am using a Netgate 1100. pfSense 22.05

                I'll look into the links you posted as well.
