WiFi suddenly gone (ath0 beacon stuck)

That said, I just ordered a Compex WLE600VX in the hope that I live long enough that FreeBSD someday supports AC.
LOL, and I just saw the main thread here is almost 3 years old!

I'm with you ...

You can search for AR5BXB112 (thanks @stephenw10 ) that is also very good for experiments ...

@johnpoz I do it because it's very educational from a code programing perspective. Plus it works great, the firewall now controls traffic at a more graingular level. I was amazed it worked this well. The GUI has no antenna options anymore fyi, the old PfSense version did.

@provels three years old? It just needed a couple more days/years of programming and configuration to get it to run right.
-
@fireodo will it run with the AR5BXB112??

Yepp - i have one in a Lab Enclosure (APU2C0 with pfsense+ 23.05.1) and it runs well ...
-
@fireodo I am gonna order one too
-
@fireodo Thanks, I have one of those (Apple), too! It will come out when the 600 gets here.

Happy testing & experimenting ...

1 stream N is works great? Letโs just agree we have different standards for great ;)
-
@johnpoz if we pretend AC doesn't exist

You're right BUT ... let the people enjoy experimenting - I'm shure they dont use it in professional environment ...

As long as we all replying to an obsolete thread, I suppose threadjacking is OK...
I don't really understand why anyone actually needs more than 640k, JK. Really though, I'm on a 70Mb cable line and most of my internal net is 54Mb wifi or 100Mb wired. I do have a few machines that are hooked together by a gig switch, but my user (me) has no issues. TV takes about 16Mb tops, Internet radio is in the KB range, and how much do I really need to browse and read email? I used to have a 400Mb line and have noticed no difference other than to my checkbook. Who besides a business is using a gig or better line? And i see so much coverage of 2.5Gb. Why? Gamers?
2.5? 10G??? Bragging rights?

It's coming only a couple more items to check off.
You crack me up! All done except everything!

@provels I am a gamer, and honestly my 100 Mb/s connection is fine. The vast majority of people would have a really hard justifying an internet connection over 200 Mb/s. Not that I would complain if someone gave me gigabit, but I really don't need it.

but I really don't need it.
I somewhat agree with this statement. Most users don't need gig, nor do they need their wifi to do gig either.
But wifi N is very slow, especially if only 1 stream. With what is possible with just very cheap AP or wifi router used as AP. It is very old tech.. Why would anyone want to limit themselves to such slow speeds, when AC is not even current, but it can easy do 400?
And while 1 wifi client doing something and only being able to do say 75mbps tops, etc. More than likely is fine for reading your email, etc. But keep in mind this is shared with all the wifi clients.. Having say 400mbps to share when you have multiple clients is going to be way better then having 75 to share.
Keep in mind as well that not all things might be going to the internet. Sharing the wifi to stream movies off your media server, or music, etc.. Will suck up your wifi, especially if its only got 75 to work with. Now you might have problems with other clients trying to watch something via the internet, etc.
I don't have gig, I have 500/50 - the 500 is fine, even with all the linux iso I download <wink, wink> but the 50 while is enough, I wish that was 500/500 since I do share my media server with friends and family. And 50 can be a bottleneck.
But yeah most people would be fine with 200 real world on wifi (standard just 2 stream AC at only a 40vht).. But with all the streaming that is done these days both locally and internet why would you not want higher wifi than what N can do?
-
@johnpoz Yeah WiFi 6 has some security improvements too. So even if you don't need the speed it is still something to consider.
-
@Austin-0 valid point as well.. There almost always other things to take into account other than just bandwidth for sure.
