Would I be better off using a mini PCIE card plugged into the the slot on the motherboard? It says something about USB which is strange to me. It is connector 18 on page 5 of the manual.

@jhines97 said in I don't see the USB wireless NIC in the interfaces GUI, where do I have to go to enable it?: 0x9271 That device is not supported by FreeBSD as far as I can see. Use an external access point if you can.

@jhines97 said in I don't see the USB wireless NIC in the interfaces GUI, where do I have to go to enable it?: "Mini PCI Express connector for WIFI(Only for USB signal)" There are only very few WIFI Cards with USB Signaling (example: WFUR6) and the support in freebsd is also poor for that kind of cards - better (as Steve said) use a external Wireless access point ... IMHO ...

I am currently using a GL.iNet GL-MT300N-V2(Mango) Portable Mini Travel Wireless Pocket VPN Router - WiFi to connect my backup WAN to a cellular hotspot. Is there a bridge or client that passes through to the built in ethernet that is better?
-
If you're using it in station mode (as a client) there are more options. Still limited support though. What are you using as a hotspot? A physical connection to it might be better.

@stephenw10 I am using a Verizon Mifi Jet Pack 8800. I ordered one of these routers instead as it has an ethernet jack. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZHV44LQ
-
That will be much easier. The 8800 might have USB Ethernet connectivity though. pfSense might see it as an ue NIC if you connect it by USB. If it's enabled for that.

@stephenw10 I went to plug a USB cable into the 8800 and noticed that the plastic back was kind of sticking out. I took off the back and the battery is bulged. I am thinking replacement is a great idea as those batteries aren't free. I tried plugging it in via USB to the PFsense and it didn't show up. Must be a windows only sort of device. I got the other router for $37.99 (it is on sale for 20% off)
