StoreID and Squid "helper program"
-
Hello fellow Netgate community members,
I just started researching StoreID.
Has anyone else worked with Squid's StoreID refresh features yet? Can anyone please provide some insight?
And or has anyone used a custom helper program?
This relates to Squid's cache and accelerator functionality. This is supposed to restore functionality to Youtube caching and restore Squid's capabilities as a cache.
StoreID I learned is used to bypass proxies and set them to automatically avoid caching all together. With device that have SSL certificates and are owned I guess there is a way to utilize StoreID to restore the caching.
Correct me if I am wrong here.

I was thinking about testing this as it has no Ruby use like the example Squid lists.
-
This discussion post shows this on Google. Is StoreID really that much of a bug catcher that Google hides it? "haha get it cache-r " If this was deleted, Netgate forum would inform you right? StoreID is part of Squid so I would assume that it is not something that would just be deleted for bring the topic up, right?

https://fazar.net/storeid-support-caching-youtube-dan-facebook-https/
This is a helper version that Squids website talks about written with Perl
-
https://github.com/rudiservo/pfsense_storeid
I tested this helper in the AM and had an error on line 43, if anyone else is researching this. If done right this can increase HIT rates with the proxy. Again, per the Squid website there is some risks associated with this, I understand that. This is for researching proxy cache use.
-
https://wiki.squid-cache.org/Features/StoreID/CollisionRisks
Ref for associated risks.
I also read if the program is incorrect it can send users the wrong page.
-
This works correctly!!!
for testing you have to run
/var/squid/storeid/storeid_helper.php /var/squid/storeid/storeid_rewrite and !not # ./storeid_helper.php storeid_rewritehttps://github.com/rudiservo/pfsense_storeid/blob/master/README.md
Ref for the rest of the testing. Now you can add any item you want to use storeid with just adapt the files.
Orginal image was before chmod 777 of the storeid folder.
WARNING you must reboot after tests if you have any errors within regular expressions as it will continue with blank ERR logs with debug enabled
-
Please,
if any other community members has worked with this or researched it let me know.
-
It seems to be functional when looking at the logs now
ERR
ERR = Success No change for this URL
Maybe it is working, I wish it said A-OK
-
I got an OK response also !!
See it in meaning "Success No change for this URL"
-
This seems functional, I am now running other system VM updates with the same update and I am getting HITs the second time arround.

Does anyone work with Store ID?
-
Here is what I have researched so far.
@mcury you ever play with Squid's store id??
Overall goal is that my photos that are already delivered can be shown as hits as they are the same photos over and over and over when I go to facebook. This will save energy and be secure as it is encrypted inside of pfsense cache anyway. However the id retrieval I am having issues with. I can store them now with storeID however I can not redeliver them.
It even comes with a small store id that is not activate that is stored in the path.
/usr/local/libexec/squid/storeid_file_rewrite
Code is followed
#!/usr/local/bin/perl use strict; use warnings; use Pod::Usage; =pod =head1 NAME storeid_file_rewrite - File based Store-ID helper for Squid =head1 SYNOPSIS storeid_file_rewrite filepath =head1 DESCRIPTION This program acts as a store_id helper program, rewriting URLs passed by Squid into storage-ids that can be used to achieve better caching for websites that use different URLs for the same content. It takes a text file with two tab separated columns. Column 1: Regular expression to match against the URL Column 2: Rewrite rule to generate a Store-ID Eg: ^http:\/\/[^\.]+\.dl\.sourceforge\.net\/(.*) http://dl.sourceforge.net.squid.internal/$1 Rewrite rules are matched in the same order as they appear in the rules file. So for best performance, sort it in order of frequency of occurrence. This program will automatically detect the existence of a concurrency channel-ID and adjust appropriately. It may be used with any value 0 or above for the store_id_children concurrency= parameter. =head1 OPTIONS The only command line parameter this helper takes is the regex rules file name. =head1 AUTHOR This program and documentation was written by I<Alan Mizrahi <alan@mizrahi.com.ve>> Based on prior work by I<Eliezer Croitoru <eliezer@ngtech.co.il>> =head1 COPYRIGHT * Copyright (C) 1996-2023 The Squid Software Foundation and contributors * * Squid software is distributed under GPLv2+ license and includes * contributions from numerous individuals and organizations. * Please see the COPYING and CONTRIBUTORS files for details. Ok so here is what I am doing...

I was researching this last time and I found I also need a redirector running in Squidguard that will retrieve the stored items. Can anyone help with this?
-
@JonathanLee One OK ...
I do get hits for Ubuntu but not for facebook. I get more without StoreID on facebook. Weird right?
-
@JonathanLee said in StoreID and Squid "helper program":
Does anyone work with Store ID?
Unfortunately no, I didn't.. splice all with cache disabled for me.
Squid/Squidguard was just to filter SNI header..
