Block Ads but allow streaming?
-
Hi,
I am trying to identify how (or what URLs) should I block in a way that I can still listen the streaming (radio player) without ADs in the website OR allow ONLY ADs for this site. I added the url to the DNSBL Whitelist, but it still blocks the ADs that this URL (cadenaser.com) and I can´t listen the radio player.
It would be fine if I see the ads for this site, but I want they keep blocked for other sites.
Any ideas? I have been checking this from the browser dev tools as in the pfblocker Alerts but if I allow googleadservices.com for example, I guess this will be allowed to all the other sites as well, right?
Thank you

I don't think that's an ok possible thing to do. It's tied into the get requests for the radio or streaming service. You got to have the ads for the shows and songs. Even if you got them to block you would also be blocked from using the steaming service in the process. Just keep it simple leave it be.
I know some proxy software can actually do a replay of all traffic just like a DVR, but that is not a package on PfSense.
Maybe get a in-between DVR and hit fast forward. . .

Thanks Jonathan, I am trying to identify what urls are blocking the streaming and will keep them to the less whitelisted. I could live with the ads on the site, but my concern was more for the rest of sites.
Anyway, thanks a lot for your answer. Have a happy new year ahead. -

try adding these to the DNSBL whitelist
smetrics.cadenaser.com yield-op-idsync.live.streamtheworld.com events.newsroom.bi
you have to force reload the DNSBL after adding them.
delete cookies from the browser.
There are 2 more, but given you are blocking ads in the first place, you likely don't want to add those 2 based on who they are
I can't test specifically because, although the test pfSense system allowed them, the main system it sits behind, still blocks.
Failing that, the only other thing you can do is all or nothing.
if you had another small system specifically for streaming, you could could just stream from there with the IP of that system set to bypass DNSBL. but again that is also an all or nothing.
Edit - they also have an extensive cookie selection, you likely need to investigate the details of each one, and make wise choices. Right on the main cookie page, where they say they care about your privacy, they also say they share your data with 792 partners (and there is a list of them).

@jrey Thanks a lot for your input! That helps a lot as for example I had not seen the smetrics.cadenaser.com before. It did not appear in pfsense nor the browser dev tools.
At the moment I allowed only pagead2.googlesyndication.com and with this, it takes 2-3 seconds more to start the streaming but I got this without any Ads. I will test some days, but if it does not work I will try whitelisting only your URLs.Much appreciated! Happy holidays and new year!
