I am having an issue on my pfsense running 23.09.1 where wireguard tunnels will show the latest handshake as (negative) 1 year, 11 months ago. When I have multiple peers configured, all peers show the same negative time value for the latest handshake. I have searched and it does not seem like this issue has been reported elsewhere.
Everything seems to function as normal otherwise.
I have tried rebooting, sometimes the normal handshake values will return, but other times the same issue is still present after a reboot.
As far as other packages, only Wireguard and pfBlocker are installed.

Why would wireguard status report that handshakes are taking place nearly 2 years in the future?

@ghhhbopitsza Weird. This problem just started for me about an hour ago.

Seems there’s an issue with the package?

Isn't there a problem with 32bit devices? I don't see it here anywhere.

@ghhhbopitsza maybe caused by the leap year? My handshake times seem ok now (March 1)

That makes sense to me, funny bug.

@slu The first time I noticed the issue was early January 2024.

It's all cleared here, most likely the leap year as suggested.

Just chiming in that this has already been reported https://forum.netgate.com/topic/183141/wireguard-status-shows-last-handshake-1-years-11-months-ago

And I think the issue is not because of the leap year, but rather certain end-of-month days. It's happened to my firewalls before (during 2023 and 2024) but not every month. When it happens, it's usually the last few hours of the day.
