problem saving settings - weird behavior lately
-
I'm just finishing up building a new firewall and my last step is configuring pfblockerng-dev.
i first noticed it a few weeks or so ago on my current main firewall. I went to update the DNSBL Whitelist and i couldn't make any changes without first rebooting the firewall.. meaning, if i added/removed any entries, then clicked save DNSBL settings, nothing happened.. leaving the page and going back in showed no changes. I found that if rebooted and went directly back into the dnsbl whitelist and i could add/remove entries.
Today i just built a new firewall, exact same setup.. i can't enable 'unbound python mode'. i can change all the settings but navigating away from the page and then back, the settings aren't keeping. clicking on the "save dnsbl settings" button does nothing.. it just 'clicks' but nothing is being saved. I haven't bothered editing the dnsbl whitelist because if i can't save these settings none of it matters.
i rebooted the firewall thinking it would be like the other one where a reboot would allow settings to be saved but no dice.any ideas?

You didn't mention, so I have to ask :
so you went to :
Selected Reload, All, and then Run ?

my current problem that caused me to post in the forum
i selected unbound python mode, scroll to the bottom of the screen, click "save" but nothing happens.
my issue that you're referring to above, sorta.. but you have it backwards.

i edited the DNSBL whitelist
-
click "save dnsbl settings"
-
I would click save dnsbl settings at this point but it doesnt matter because the changes to the whitelist that i made aren't being saved.

I'm using python mode, and I want to switch to unbound mode :
So I select "Unbound mode", and then save at the bottom of the page?
Then I see this at the top of the screen :
If you don't see that yellow message, its probably time to check the system logs for "important" messages ...
edit : what pfSense version ?
pfBlockerng version ?Something went wrong with the capture, I can't read it ....

latest version of everything, pfsense 2.72 and pfblockerng-devel
i'll see if doing the reload works. again, this is a fresh install. i don't have any lists selected.. i'm just going through the initial configuration.
when i select unbound python mode, then scroll to the bottom to click 'save', nothing happens and none of the settings are saved.
i believe people have been mentioning that there are issues with the latest update to PHP.. was wondering if any of this has anything to do with it..

i believe people have been mentioning
Where ?
If so, I would be here in this forum ....
I'm using pfSense 23.09.1myself for some months now, basically identical to 2.7.2 and :I've no "IP" lists, but some DNSBL feeds :
( I didn't test what happens if I removed all DNSBL my lists as that basically makes pfBlockerng 'do nothing' ).
I use the 'python method' as that's IMHO the best (fastest) way to handle DNSBL lists.
You could try to re install pfBlockerng-devel.

I will add blocklists, i'm just trying to configure it now.
again, this IS a fresh install.. there's nothing there.. i clicked on the installer, let it do it's thing, then opened pfblockerng-dev to start tuning it (configure settings, subscriptions, add lists), i've been using it for years so i'm pretty well versed.
again, this is a fresh, ground-up install, the fw is not in service yet because i need to get these packages up and running first.

i looked through the logs and found the following:
2024-03-27 20:52:28,150|ERROR| [pfBlockerNG]: Failed to parse: pfb_py_data.txt: ['', 'vt-26694.alpha.rtb-dashboard.mgid.']
any ideas?

was able to figure things out for the most part, however that issue with clicking the "Save DNSBL Settings" still exists..
so, i'm at a point where if i want to make any changes under the DNSBL tab, i have to first reboot the entire firewall.
performing a full reload of ip and dnsblock lists does nothing.
I click the button and nothing updates. if i reboot first, i can make changes (as long as i do it immediately after the reboot) and the "Save DNSBL Settings" button will be effective.
