@eiger3970-0 Maybe just try a free VPN from someone like Proton and use their app to connect. Much less hassle.

      Peder

      MAIN - pfSense+ 24.11-RELEASE - Adlink MXE-5401, i7, 16 GB RAM, 64 GB SSD. 500 GB HDD for SyslogNG
      BACKUP - pfSense+ 23.01-RELEASE - Hyper-V Virtual Machine, Gen 1, 2 v-CPUs, 3 GB RAM, 8GB VHDX (Dynamic)

@provels I did check Proton VPN, but my protonmail.com email domain is not allowed and the free VPN offers 246 servers in 7 countries.
        I need more countries.
I might have to use the Opera browser's VPN.

I also thought OpenVPN would be useful as I might setup remote access, which I previously tried with pfSense's TailScale.

@eiger3970-0 I have not heard of that "trick" if you will. But a quick google shows its not very valid. Billing address, blocking vpn IPs, etc.

But sure your exit IP from a vpn service in region X, vs your local IP in region Y - the site you talk to will see the vpns IP in region X

@eiger3970-0 Probably wil not make much difference. Most flight costs are based on originating airport, regardless of what country you book them from.
Best way is to look for code-share routes & book via the airline with the shared code, i.e. for BA flights book via Amercan Airlines on BA metal.

The only exception might be a reseller in another country with lower overheads (but unlikely)

You would be better off asking on forums like FlyerTalk.

@pwood999 I thank everyone for the info about how to book cheaper flights, however I really need info about pfSense OpenVPN changing regions.

For now, I'll use Opera browser's region changer.

Yes, booking flights from different regions with the same flight company in your country will save a little bit.
This, I would say 'reverse trick' which the flight companies exploit on unassuming consumers is 1 of about 10 tricks the flight companies use, which all add up when employing all 10 'reverse tricks'.

Imho, when corporations obfuscate products for exploitative profit, it's a sign of market overreach. Legit business cooperatives can provide an honest and clear business model when genuine consumer demand is in the market...but I digress and won't continue.

need info about pfSense OpenVPN changing regions.

that info has already been answered - YES if you created a connection to some vpn services pop in region B of the world while you're in A... If you talk to X, the IP will from region B...

@johnpoz Thank you, I'm sorry, but I must have overlooked your original post as I was looking for how to setup OpenVPN to do this.
Are there any links on how to configure pfSense or OpenVPN to do:

                  1. create a connection to some VPN service POP in region B.

@eiger3970-0 yeah there are multiple guides all over the internet, pick your service and they more than likely have a guide on how to use it with pfsense.

I am not aware of vpn service that doesn't allow you to pick what region of the world you want to connect to.. Some might have more choices than others, etc. But all of them do this.. I am not aware of any vpn service that only allows you to connect to pops in your own region.

@johnpoz Sorry, but I'm confused what to search for?
My search query is not bringing up any useful results?

@eiger3970-0 search for vpns.. You don't need a guide to change regions - just connect to the vpn service you pick and what region you want to be in..

                        https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-vpn-services

Go thru those and pick one that meets your budget and has a guide for pfsense.. Most of them if not all of them do.

@johnpoz thank you, I understand the picture now.
I found this and this however it seems just using a free Opera browser VPN is enough.
Tor seems to connect to random regions, whereas I would like to pick a region.
