Hi,

Looks like Netgate is not wanting people discussing on this forum.

My reply was fagged as a spam. It was not a spam in any sense.

I rarely post here, and I'm not interested about getting any points or similar from other users. But when I want to discuss, this should just work, and looks like it don't.

If this works really like this, I won't post anymore anything here.

There is alternatives out there as everybody knows.

I wish there was something else available for NodeBB that was even half as effective. I'd love to hear it if you know of anything.

Unfortunately Akismet is the best option we have AFAIK and, yes, it's not that great. And there are no settings for it in NodeBB so we can't whitelist users etc.

Asking for a few upvotes (5) is the only workaround.

And about the forum : if you ever had one yourself, and it became popular : there is one thing you don't like, can bring a lot of troubles, and arrive every time.
You wake up in the morning, and you login to see if there are new messages, things to handle, whatever.
And then you find your forum filled up with hundreds 'images'. And not the ones they dare to show in a public museum in France, but way more 'not done'.

Visit the (this) forum regularly, and you'll see them quiet often. Just stupid text, normally.

Just so you know.. I did just quick seach on spam db - and 2 of your IPs you have used to access the forum are very common used list for spam filtering.

That one has 78 reports on it.. So its not like the tool is just randomly say oh screw this guy is prob a spammer anyway.. There are things that come into play when it makes its decision..

BTW I am one of the guy that helps keep the forum clean of stuff that does get past.. Which isn't zero that is for sure..

@VioletDragon no they didn't seem to be "vpn" provider IPs - the companies that own them are not listed as specific vpn providers.. Doesn't mean they are not or could be tor exit nodes, etc.. I didn't dig that deep into it. I looked a bit more at the company that owns the one IP that had 78 reports, and it doesn't have a good rep, and comments on the rep do list vpn and tor exit nodes, etc. etc.

I just wanted to show that hey - the tools being used, which akismet is used by many different forum software, pretty sure was at first just a plugin for wordpress.. But it grew, there is a ful api so you can report ham (stuff that is not spam).. But with whatever plugin they are using for the forum software here I do not believe any of that functionality is available, etc.

My understanding is it combines info from all the sites using it to determine if something is spam and should be blocked, etc.

Yes it would be nice if you could say mark an IP, or an account for whitelisting just for your site, etc. And that may be possible with full access to the api.. But if you look nodebb I believe the only anti spam plugin I see is spam-be-gone.. So there are not a lot of options.

And if you look at the issues listed for the plugin- may of them have been open for years and years without being addressed. And there is one about this exact problem..

Maybe some smart guy here could fork it and fix it up to allow for whitelisting accounts by username/emailaddress.

But normally if you go over 5 rep points askmet stops blocking your stuff. There are few threads where you can just ask for rep points and people normally chime in and get you over 5 really quick..

Yup. In other forums the Akismet plugin has a bunch of configuration/management options. But AFAIK none of that exists in the NodeBB plugin unfortunately.
