GUI Login Issue
-
Hi,
I'm new to pfsense and I just installed it on an extra PC I had. I am able to login to the GUI but after I attempt to save/apply changes the page just stays in loading mode and I am unable to access from the web browser again until I restart the computer with pfsense installed on it.
My set up is that I have a cell phone hotspot giving access to a TP link travel router. I have an ethernet cable going from the tp-link travel router to the pfsense PC and I am currently trying to set up an access point on the pfsense PC using a tp-link TL-WN725N usb wifi. The problem again is I'm trying to set up the access point settings for the usb wifi and it doesn't seem to save and afterwards I can't get back into the GUI.
Anyone have any advice for this issue?

Have save and applied the changes? What kind of hardware are you running pfSense on? If you are utilizing it for an AP also that may cause issues and you should think about using an external AP and use pfSense just for its firewall software. It sounds to me like you are making changes to an interface that the AP resides on and it doesn’t like that change. It is for a specific change you are making, if so what are you attempting to save?

Another way to isolate this is to have a Counsel session open and safe the changes and see what shows on the counsel session, you might have created a rule that is locking you out also.

Sorry for the late response and thanks for replying. Yes when I attempt to save the changes its freezes up and loses connection and I can't reaccess pfsense from my browser.
I am currently trying to use it as an access point via the wifi usb. See below "diagram":
Cell phone (hotspot) -> tplink travel router -> ethernet cable -> pfsense pc -> wifi usb (access point). However you gave me another idea what if I switched the tplink travel router and the wifi usb to the below setup:
Cell phone (hotspot) -> wifi usb -> pfsense pc -> ethernet cable -> tplink travel router (access point). My problem with the above is I'm having a hard time assigning the wifi usb to the WAN in the pfsense configuration/setup. I know that the wifi usb works with pfsense because I can get it to blink its normal green color.
The hardware that I have pfsense running on is a Dell micro pc i3 dual core 3200GHZ with 8GB RAM. Also I did not create any rules or touch anything else on pfsense. I was just trying to add the wifi usb as an interface.
The change I was trying to save was saving the wifi usb as a LAN access point which ends up freezing the system and then I am unable to log back in via the browser until I reset the interfaces.

I found this older post from 2021. Looks like the OP had the same issue or similar to mine.
