@mak73 Netgate worked with OpenVPN to develop and integrate support for OpenVPN Data Channel Offload (DCO) into FreeBSD. It’s a premium feature to recoup some of that investment.

@q54e3w That is OK, but as i said i other topic, if they make 50$ TAC Lite a year, they will earn much more.

@mak73 I think the economics are slightly more complicated than that. Another option is to pick up a netgate appliance that includes ‘plus’ for $0. “TAC Lite Is included with Netgate appliances with pfSense Plus for life of the product “

@q54e3w Well OK, but the users need to know what is the future of CE edition. There is no clearly statment fron Netgate, They shall be honest with their CE users. They make some things, but they never said OK, the situation is so and so. You have to pay for this, and for that not. That is why they lose a lot of users to opnsense. I know that is a lot of work to do, and that that costs, but, 50$ for Private users a Year, will help a lot. A lot of IT advisors in EU will prefer pfSense, there are not only "big" companies, and we know waht is happening when you are addicted to such companies.
Well, that is only my opinion, and does not to be true, but from my experience, i see how the people think and what they do. And once gone, they are gone forever.

@mak73 I just buy the Netgate appliances you get plus with them already and no yearly fees, it’s built into the appliance already, support is a dream come time when I need firmware, they help look at configuration everything, it’s a great way to get the plus without having to pay extra

@JonathanLee I don't doubt that the support is great. But, maybe will be fair to give a clear statement about the future of CE edition.
Once Red Hat done that with CentOS, they lost a lot of users, and now they use Rocky Linux.

The TAC for a '1100' is hardware based. So valid for a '1100', most probably your '1100', not another one.

@JonathanLee said in DCO available only on Plus version?:

I just buy the Netgate appliances you get plus with them already and no yearly fees, it’s built into the appliance already,

However, a Netgate appliance is not an option for all use cases. I have four installations for instance, where the firewall has to be virtualized in each. Two of them are for home use, where the current TAC fee seems too expensive to me.

And I don't intend to kick off a discussion about virualization of firewalls here, please.

@viragomann That is what i think. A lot of us have home labs. And 130 $ a year, it's much too much.
