Ok, I think I get it.
See it like this :
You have this scrip tool that creates 'forum account'. easy, fast, reliable.
So now you can also (scripted of course) add new content. If were lucky, it's an add for the new Mercedes Benz car. If we're unlucky it's the entire selling list of the dark net's local pharma stuff. Or worse.
But that's not possible anymore, as you need to have 5 upvotes before you can add stuff (image) to your forum post.And here it comes : that can be scripted too !!
So, use your spam script to create 5 forum member accounts. Have every new forum account upvote the other 5 the script just created.
And done, spam away.You were not there, about 2 (3 ?) weeks go, when there were spam messages every 30 seconds during hours ..... so I guess some one changed 'something'.
No worry; real humans can upvote, so that's what I've done.

Since always AFAIK. Otherwise spammers could just create a few accounts and upvote themselves to bypass the filters.

That's odd - my account shows I've upvoted >40 posts previously, and then found I no longer could. I now see I've been "promoted". Thanks all.

Ok, I tried to give a thumbs up on an issue that I agreed with, but replies back with this error: "You need 5 reputation to upvote"...
So how does one earn a reputation to be allowed to upvote? Seems to defeat the purpose of the forum. I signed up a while ago so I can learn and also post to get responses. What is required to do that and/or agree with a post?- thanks.

@jdstlnet you get reps for posting things others agree with or like.. Once you have 5 then you can upvote.. I am with Steve - I don't recall you ever being able to just upvote if don't have any of your own?
When they changed forum software, there use to be up and down.. I don't recall if any of those points were carried over, that was back a few years for sure.
But as Steve mentioned - if anyone could just out rep points, spammers would have a field day upvoting all their spammer buddies and duplicate accounts.

If we set it lower or disable it then spammers just upvotes themselves from multiple accounts and bypass the filters. Chaos ensues!
