When will 2.8 dev snapshot be available

@nimrod You certainly seem to enjoy using the word "whine".

And just for the record for all of you that are switching to opnsense because it gets regular updates. Why dont you research CVE-2024-6387 and report back in here. Let us know how long did it take to fix this issue in opnsense (that gets regular updates) vs pfsense that "gets no updates". Let us know.
Based on what I am seeing, it looks like it was fixed in 24.1.10 which was released on July 11th 2024.
Again, I am not telling anyone what to do. Just responding to people as to how I fixed my original issue.

@clifford64 I think the point that a lot of folks are missing is that the FREE version, CE, does not include a lot of the bells and whistles that are included in the 23.x, 24.x, etc versions of the software anymore.
The CE version includes just the basic firewall and that's it. After all Netgate is in business to make money and cannot afford to give away all the niceties that they are selling in the other versions for free.

Thats exactly what you and many others do. You spew bunch of nonsense with nothing to back it up.

the era of open source firewalls is comming to and end.
Which is what is being pointed out about pfsense CE, So we agree.
Some of us lament the passing and call it for what it is.

You are contributing that extinction.

This thread has been going around in circles with people asking when the 2.8 development snapshot will be released, followed by responses that the people who are asking are just "whining".
I've been using pfsense for many years. For all of those years until 2.7 was released, I used the release version for my network and I maintained a development snapshot which I used for testing, including testing fixes that were written by people who left this community a long time ago. (You don't have to be a genius to figure out where they went.)
All you have to do is look at the release cadence of the development snapshots and it's undeniable that the current absence of a development snapshot is "unusually long". There have been numerous "real soon now" posts, but obviously there still is no development snapshot after many months and numerous releases of the paid version.
netgate claims pfsense is "open source" and when they introduced the paid version, they said the CE version would continue. The reality is that the CE version is doing a good impression of being dead, protestations to the contrary. Stating this obvious fact is not whining. netgate could easily put this issue out of its misery by either releasing a 2.9 development snapshot or confirming that they have no intention of releasing one, which is certainly what it looks like.

I did wonder about that earlier but came to the conclusion the decision had already been made prior to any input from me.
Looking at Netgate's actions, that decision was made when they changed their development model so CE was no longer used to reduce bugs and increase the quality of their paid version. In theory they could still reverse this discussion however I see no evidence of that being considered. That leaves the only remaining use of CE for Netgate is to transition as many users to the closed source paid version rather than competitors, prior CE being an embarrassment for them.
Imo being aware of this is the best way of managing an eol product. Note I have not offered any opinion on the merits of changing to an open source product which has a business model which supports a paid service, or transitioning to a paid closed source product.

The more i read this thread, more i want netgate to pull the plug ce version. That seems to be the only way to shut everyone up.

Victim blaming is a new low water mark.

Instead of providing any valid criticism on anything i said so far, you and your buddies resort to these subtle insults and call yourselves victims. Talking about low watermarks...

There are numerous posts in this thread as well as others where users have made valid criticisms of the lack of a 2.8 development snapshot. I guess you disregard all of those posts because you disagree.
As your other comment, criticisms are not "subtle insults". They are criticism. It's not insulting to criticize. If you're "insulted" by users criticizing netgate, that's on you. You should not be taking criticism of netgate personally. If you are, then again, that's on you.
netgate set an expectation for development snapshots many years ago. Many people, users and developers invested time into testing and even contributing code, which netgate incorporated into their paid product. They doubled down on the expectation by stating when the paid version was released that they would continue the "community edition". They clearly have not delivered. That's what users are criticizing.

Pointing the obvious fact is not a valid criticism. To you it may be, because you have nothing else to say. There are no 2.8 dev snapshots. Dont cry about it, deal with it.

Other than pointing out what others have said, can YOU tell me what are the outstanding security issues with current ce version? If you can provide CVE number that would be great.
You should not be taking criticism of netgate personally. If you are, then again, that's on you.
Not at all. I just want people to elaborate on all those vulnerabilities and security issues that they are constantly mentioning in this thread.

Things change. Deal with it.

Netgate does whatever they want. Crying about is not going to change anything.
This thread should have been locked long time ago. And i think that only reason its still open is because someone else will start another and scream censorship.
