      Good afternoon,

I downloaded PfSense 2.8 and am running it as a POC in this virtualization configuration:

I know that PfSense 2.8 uses FreeBSD 15 and not version 14, which is the latest supported by VmWare.

I am running an IPSEC VPN on this configuration and using pfBlockerNG-devel. I created the machine from scratch and restored the settings from a PfSense 2.6.0 VM without any major problems other than adjustments to the PfBlocker lists.

So far, everything is fine, with few users connecting to the VPN.

I would like to know if anyone else is using this combination of PfSense+VMWare+Guest OS, if it eventually works, or what types of problems I should expect to encounter.

      Thank you,

      Geovane

Hi, we are running a couple of devices with pfSense+ (24.11). So long no major problems in our setup.

Like you I had to choose FreeBSD 14 in the VM-configuration, but our vCenter recognize the Guest OS after the Setup correctly as FreeBSD15.

Virtualising it this way is common and other than ensuring you've taken into account the known tunables for a VM using ESXi, you should be ok.
