pfSense® CE 2.8.1 Beta Now Available!

Successful and uneventful update from 2.8 to 2.8.1 on bare metal. I initiated the update from GUI with an IPMI console session (which I never touched) side-by-side.
Update preparation was outputted nicely to the GUI logview, which persisted during the 'still rebooting, retrying again in xx seconds...' making it helpful to be able to scroll back through and review what steps were performed and packages were marked for upgrade.
From console view, the system then appeared to reboot into 2.8, perform/finalize the 2.8.1 update, and then reroot into the now-updated system.
If you're doing it 'blind' from GUI (i.e., no console view), expect it to take at least 10 minutes.
I did manually start
unbound
, which was still stopped, once I logged back into the GUI. But I may have jumped the gun on that. (Not running any service watchdog or anything, checked DNS Resolver log quick, and then just decided to click the 'Start' radio from the Dashboard Services widget, and it started normally.) -

Hello,
Since this is a maintence update and the operating system is not changing, do I need to uninstall the packages before applying it? I am just wondering about saving some time.
Thanks
Roy

@reberhar At least keep a configuration backup and proceed.
You should be fine in general.

I guess after reading the other posts maybe I do need to do the packages.

@netblues Thanks

@reberhar Piece of cake.
Really fast with no problems.

Look like 2.8.1 is coming soon:

Will it be available to download as well?
-
@Waqar.UK No they usually just give us a printout of the code and we're expected to type in the bytes ourselves.
-
@KOM Calm down ya hippy.
-
@KOM Ah. Those were the days. Spend three days typing in the code and then two weeks debugging. Got some great skills from those days.
-
@xxup You just conjured up some memories of me, my Apple ][ and various issues of Nibble magazine.

@slu All us old guys with 11/70, BSD, System 5, RSX11 experience, VIM, Emac, C, etc.
I even did 8s for awhile. Really good stuff. Too bad AT&T was so greedy.

Thanks for working on it.
