      Hello,

      I would like to try pfSense with VMware Workstation 6.5.1. I only want pfSense to be a router…thats it...no firewall, dns, etc. Is this possible? If so could you point me to documentation on what I need to turn off so that it functions the way I described?

        advanced –> "Disable Firewall"

        Disable all packet filtering.
        Note: This converts pfSense into a routing only platform!
        Note: This will turn off NAT!

        services –> "DNS forwarder" --> uncheck "Enable DNS forwarder"
        ditto for all other services you want to disable.

          If you want to keep the firewall rule functionality so you can filter packets, you can just disable NAT by going to NAT, Outbound, change it to manual and delete the rule. This will allow it to function strictly as a router with the ability to filter packets.
