Any other color options?

the grey on grey text is really hard to read!! are there any other color schemes we can choose for our profiles that would make the forum text easier to read?
-
We are working on the theme, not quite right yet.
-
Was testing out the colors last night and today, at home the grey looks fine but at work the grey was blending in with the backgrounds. Looks good so far otherwise.
-
I also think the text with in the posts is hard to read, i.e. this msg you are reading. Darker text would stand out more and be much easier to read IMO. Keep up the good work!

The reason this is a issue is because of two things, the first beeing our choice of colors, the second is the way SMF theme is built.
I'm working on ways to fix this without toom much hacking on the forum itself. Beacuse doing so will just end up with making updates difficult.
So bear with us for now. We are working on ways to theme the board better, and fix the colors. But none of us are very familiar with SMF. So unless anyone wants to either build a new theme that we can work with, or buy us a vbulletin license, then you will just have to wait untill we come up with a good way to fix it. -
What about Invision Power Board and the good old phpBB?
Aren't these free?
Anyway I love SMF.
I'd like to have my phpBB smilies but everything else is really cool.
BTW I could go on and complaint about the colors but if you guys are already working on it, then there's simply no reason to do that :P.

CheersWe are not changing forum software. We already have enough time invested in this.

Hmm, maybe I didn't express myself clearly…
I don't want you guys changing the forum engine just because the colors thing is not solved yet or because I miss my good old phpbb smilies.
I love SMF and if it's working I see no reason to change.
What made me mention phpBB and IPB was the below sentence.
@lsf:So unless anyone wants to either build a new theme that we can work with, or buy us a vbulletin license, then you will just have to wait untill we come up with a good way to fix it.
Apparently lsf would give it a thought if we would provide you guys with a vbulletin license.
That's why I thought "maybe they still haven't made up their minds on the forum engine they'll be using".
And that's also why I asked if phpBB and IPB are still freeware or if they've gone commercial because last time I check they were free.
But I acknowledge your above sentence "we're not changing forum software" ;).
Anyway, I don't care much about the forum engine and if the forum looks cool or not.
What I really care for is pfSense LiveCD and pfSense Embedded.
And I care for a good and well maintained forum with lot's of good info inside :P.

Imo. there is only one alternative i would consider instead of SMF. And the is if somone would buy us a vbulletin version.
There are tons of forum software packages out there, and all of them has some issues. vBulletin is the only thing i would consider working on instead of what we already have. So unless one or more ppl would consider getting us a vBulletin forum i think this will have to do. As for the changes of colors etc, I'm working on a solution here. So far i havent gotten any of them done in a nice way. I think what we need is to build our own theme from scratch. I'm working on this whenever i have time.As for a solution right now you might want to mark the text in your post and color it black, this can be done with;```
all text in your postPlease don't suggest other forums as i will not spend time testing everything out there.

Now, that's much clearer now ;).

No worries. We know you can make it :D.

I won't anymore.
I just suggested because you seemed to suggest vbulletin (commercial) while there were others that I mentioned (free) ;). -
What about the good old phpBB?
phpBB is still free, but we aren't using it for good reason. Search bugtraq for phpBB. It's had significant actively exploited security holes, I believe I counted about 15 times in 2005 alone. Sorry, I'm not going to upgrade the forum every other week, and risk being hit by 0 day vulnerabilities. phpBB is probably the best free forum, from what I've seen, but many years of repeated security holes proves their developers need to get a clue.
SMF is the best option, taking functionality and security into account. The templates are a real pain, but overall this is a very nice system.

Hi cmb,
I agree on phpBB security risks and I also agree that SMF is a great free engine.
I just miss the good old phpBB smilies ;D.
But that I'm affraid is something that I'll have to cope with.
CheersPS: Could you please ask all the forum members to use the "Change Color" scrolldown box and choose black on all the posts untill you guys solve the templates issue?
-
Is it me or have you guys sorted out the problem of the "grey on grey" text?
Because today all the posts I have read are "black on grey" as they should.
