Does pfsense still have throughput issues on VMWare varients?

    I notice that VMWare after March 2006 has e1000 interfaces.

    By using e1000, can we avoid throughput problems mentioned below? Thanks.

    I'm using VMWare workstation 5.5 on top of XP.

    This is for testing only as the LNC interfaces that are emulated are still BGL locked and performance sucks.

    It's great for testing, however.

        Does that mean it's not good to put pfsense + VMWare on production environment, e.g. a wireless captive portal site? Thanks.

          It all depends on your environment, how much wan speed, etc.

          You should test such a situation instead of asking us.  Only you can deterimine what is good for you're environment.

              Good luck and be sure to edit the .vmx file and change the nic type out to e1000
