Does ad-hoc 5.x/802.11a with many nodes function as well as 11g ad-hoc?

Does ad-hoc 5.x/802.11a with 3+ participants function about as well as a similar 11g ad-hoc network, assuming they all have line of site?  I'm curious to know if 11a is as good as 11g at informing the other nodes when it's clear to send, etc.

Should work even better, less noise on the 5.X band in general.

It's working fine for us.  We have dual radio nodes…11a for backhaul and 11g for distribution.
