USB wifi dongle (Atheros)
-
Hi
I am trying (unsuccessfully) to use an Atheros based USB dongle with pfSense v 1.0.1
The chipset: http://www.atheros.com/pt/bulletins/AR5005UGBulletin.pdf

Madwifi does not support usb
-
OpenBSD has the uath driver: http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi?query=uath&sektion=4
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well, pfSense is based on FreeBSD and MadWifi is for Linux, so that MadWifi doesn't support this device is largely irrelevant ;)
However, support in FreeBSD for Atheros devices on USB is still some time off, see http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-mobile/2007-March/009571.html (later in the thread the poster says he's expecting to have it working towards the end of summer).

Actually, madwifi does matter, its a great resource to find out who is using the atheros chipset.
See this post:

Just thought I would clarify that for you as it is a great resource if you didn't already know. -
I'll still stand by my statement that support in FreeBSD is more relevant than support in Linux - given that pfSense is based on FreeBSD ;)

I've never really looked at the madwifi list before now, but it is actually a good reference list of cards based on Atheros chipsets. Every card listed there should work, and that list appears to be much more comprehensive than any list I've seen for FreeBSD.
Definitely a worthwhile reference, even if it is for a completely different OS.
