What is the best way to detect port scans using pfSense? Even installing some software via command line wouldn't be an issue for me. Snort is an overkill imho. Is there anything else that can be done in order to have a notification when you get port-scanned?

Why do you want to get emailed 100+ times a day?

You're right, not emailed. Just being able to log the port scans somewhere in order view them when time permits. Web interface would be great although not necessary.
