Netgear WG311 works as AP?
-
I'm unsure here if this card can acts as a Access Point or not.
Link to product: http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adapters/GWirelessAdapters/WG311.aspxThis is what http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility/Netgear says:
Chipset: AR5212 (b/g)
URL: www.netgear.com
Interface: Mini PCI in PCI carrier. (Can be removed).
Antenna Connector: RP-SMA.
Device Information: 168c:0013 (rev 01)
Notes: Rev 01 works fine with Madwifi(ng?) under Ubuntu 7.04 with NetworkManager.
Rev 02 has a TI chip, and is not compatible (Device Information : 104c:9066, Work with ndiswrapper).
Rev 03 has a Marvell Chip, and is also not compatible (Device Information : 11ab:1faa (rev 03), Work with ndiswrapper)AR5212 stands for Atheros i hope, true?
Thanks for me.

Yes, that card will work but you have to be careful, especially with netgear nics (but it's the same for other vendors as well). They tend to change the chipsets between different hardwarerevisions for the same card, so the WG311v1 might be an atheros and a WG311v2 something completely different (don't know if the v1 is atheros, so don't quote me on that, it's just an example). Btw, your post already includes the versions now as I look closer:
Rev 01 works fine with Madwifi(ng?) under Ubuntu 7.04 with NetworkManager.
Rev 02 has a TI chip, and is not compatible (Device Information : 104c:9066, Work with ndiswrapper).
Rev 03 has a Marvell Chip, and is also not compatible (Device Information : 11ab:1faa (rev 03), Work with ndiswrapper)You will have to get a Rev 01 board. 02 and 03 are no option. This means that you probably only get them used as Rav 01 is not sold anymore.

To be sure, I'll refuse to buy that card. :)
I'm still not sure if things will work or not, so I'll ask again.
Belkin product this time.

It's one of those F5D7000 card.http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010053995.aspx
Think it'll work?

If your going to buy something new i will recommend a access point instead of a wireless card.

That card should work, even the ralink chipset based version but I would make sure that you can return it just in case that it doesn't work.

I bought the WG311T which had an atheros chipset but worked for a short while and then worked off and on. You may have better luck the with the WG311 than I did with the WG311T which may have a different chipset. This card may work much better under pfSense 1.3 that uses FreeBSD 7.
On pfSense 1.2 I have had much better stability with Linksys Wireless-G USB Network Adapter, WUSB54G Ver. 4. Make sure it is version 4 in order to get a compatible chipset.
Or you could pick up a PCI adapter and a mini PCI atheros card from Netgate.
