THEME: CODE-RED
-
I'm not a lawyer, and the usage terms make my head hurt, but this:
@http://www.freebsdfoundation.org/documents/Guidelines.shtml:Any individual, organization, or company may use the Marks to show support for the Project or as part of a notice to users that your product incorporates the FreeBSD operating system.
Seems to cover the usage in a pfSense theme.
The numbered requirements seem to be only if you use the logo on packaging or for product promotion-
@http://www.freebsdfoundation.org/documents/Guidelines.shtml:The Marks may not be used on product packaging or to promote products and services, or to create the impression of an endorsement or certification unless you comply with all of the following:
1. Anyone who uses any of our Marks is required to comply with these use guidelines, as well as the requirements in your license, if you are a licensee. For special or unusual projects, we may ask you to comply with requirements specific to your use.
2. You must request our permission to use the Marks at trademark@FreeBSDFoundation.org prior to any use of the Marks, and we may grant or withhold permission to use the Marks in our sole discretion.
etc…
-
Well I have a reply from The FreeBSD Foundation and I think its quite a fair responce!
The problem I see with your request, is that you tied the logo with the pfSense logo.
Our trademark usage terms and conditions states:
"If we grant you permission to use the Marks, your use of the Marks must always be fully and clearly reproduced, and you may not incorporate any of our Marks into the trademarks, service mark, logos, or name of your business, project, or organization, unless you have the express prior written permission of the Foundation."
You need to separate our logo from yours. That way your logo identifies your organization/project and our logo represents FreeBSD separately.
Please submit new artwork for us to consider.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
The FreeBSD Foundation
Like I said I'll just have to be a little more creative and I can and will still use the freebsd logo as long as I don't change/mask/mix it in any way plus seek approval which I will do.
-
Well I've replaced the FreeBSD logo with a globe, now I can't decide on - lens flare or not lens flare!
-
I'd have to vote for "no lens flare" :)
-
I would vote for the lens flare
-
+1 for the lenseflare :-)
-
yep, lensflare.
-
flare ;)
-
I'm pretty much done here - I've kept the flare but just at 80% :P
One last niggle Hoba, can I move "Username and password incorrect" via loggin.css?
I've had a hunt around but can't move it, I'm no coder as I've said before so I have to change many values until I affect the one I want, its a slow process as you can imagine.
Cheers to all.
-
Afaik this object doesn't use a css container and therefor is not movable or themeable. I'm no coder either. I'm just playing around with CSS and moving pixels. Would be nice to have this element themeable too though. I'll have a look and bring this up in the devchannel so we hopefully can theme it soon.
-
Hey, I wouldn't worry too much, I mean if you cant remember your username and password you've got more problems than the word "incorrect" covering up a bit of the sea!
My theme is pretty much done, I'll fire off one more mail to freeBSD to get approval for the two instances of their logo and I'm good to go, subject to any last minute OS changes.
-
Found it!
That really is it now or I'm gunna send myself crazy tweaking it.
-
Hey, nice work! :D
So which part of the css needed to be tweaked to move this text around? ;)
-
The very last line of login.css - the trick was to refresh index.php for the changes to take affect. The inspect element feature of google chrome has been a god send in helping confirm I'm in the right place.
Have mailed freebsd today to request permission to use the two logo's so once they reply it can be shipped with pfsense if the dev's want.
-
Cool, just to document it for all the themers ut there (you and me :D ). I really like your theme and we'll definately will include it. Good job!
Btw, just sent a preview of the theme I was working on during the hackathon to the blog: http://blog.pfsense.org/?p=404
-
Nice work guys, i really like all your themes. pfSense is going to be theme happy now ;)
Hoba where can I find your DNA theme? i really like that one too.. -
That theme will only work on pfsense 2.0 as it really changes the complete colorset which is not doable in the 1.2 branch. I stored the theme on the blog-site as it is too big to be attached here: http://blog.pfsense.org/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/pfdns.zip
Have fun.
-
Where as the purpose my theme is to work on both 1.2.x and 2 (for now) and give us something new until 2 becomes stable enough for production ;)
-
the hackathontheme works on 1.2.x as well as on 2.0 too :)
-
Even better - Is the hackathon theme "thined out" ? I mean can I use it to thin out (remove wast) mine?
