This mornings update 10:00 Ish UK Time Broke My Install

Hi,
I run a custom loader.conf to disable UDMA (hw.ata.ata_dma=0 on microdrive install) ordinarily this survives in-place upgrades but this morning upgrading from RC1 to RC2 via 'Firmware upgrade' my router failed to re-boot as it looks like it is now running a default loader.conf and will require re-building when I get home from work.

Has the update policy now changed in that the default loader.conf will over write a user configured one during the upgrade process?

Guys, got home did a re-install of 1.2.3-RC1 built on Wed Apr 22 15:36:34 EDT 2009 and then tried again to System-> Firmware-> Auto Update and again my /boot/loader.conf got over written causing my router to fail to boot so the first time was not a fluke.

Please confirm that this is correct and from now on I have to upgrade from CD ???

Please also advise how to restore the Boot menu so at least if I upgrade I get the option to drop to the OK prompt to repair the damage. At the moment as soon as you restore your config you loose the option to hit the spacebar after the kernel loads.

Bit disappointed.

Last I knew this was always replaced.

Here's a way around it:
Go to a shell and:

touch /tmp/no_upgrade_reboot_required

Run a firmware update as you normally would, then it won't reboot at the end.

Go back to a shell and then redo your loader.conf changes.

Cheers Jimp, will try this tomorrow when I get home from work.

Thought there must be a way to prevent the reboot after the upgrade.

This worked fine - bit daunting not knowing when the upgrade has finished but my faith in pfsense has been restored.

PS, Great work on the DHCP lease deletion script available in this build I just upgraded to Jimp ;)
