Is this supposed to be where you post your CF card sizes?
Here's a handful of newegg specials I had on my desk. Most are sadly undersized.

      A-Data speedy 1GB (orange)
      01F0 Master 044A CF 1GB
      Phys C/H/S 1966/16/63 Log C/H/S 983/32/63

      A-Data 80x super 1GB (purple)
      01F0 Master 044A CF 1GB
      Phys C/H/S 1966/16/63 Log C/H/S 983/32/63

      Kingston 1GB (flower)
      01F0 Master 044A CF CARD 1GB
      Phys C/H/S 1934/16/63 Log C/H/S 967/32/63

      Trancend 133x 2GB
      01F0 Master 044A TRANSCEND
      Phys C/H/S 3884/16/63 Log C/H/S 971/64/63

      A-Data speedy 2GB (grey)
      01F0 Master 044A CF 2GB
      Phys C/H/S 3933/16/63 Log C/H/S 983/64/63

        snip

        Phys C/H/S 1934/16/63 Log C/H/S 967/32/63

        snip

The problem is worse than I thought. The total bytes on this card is 998,129,664.  How low to go indeed  :(

That's ridiculous.  It should have at least 1,000,000,000 bytes.  Hard drives have standards to meet if they want to advertise themselves (can't remember the name of the standard).

Memory is supposed to follow the JEDEC standard which means that 1GB of memory is supposed to be 1,073,741,824 bytes.

I recently built my first pfsense box and I used a 1Gb Transcend Industrial compact flash. Unfortunately it was also too small for your 1Gb nanobsd images. According to the documentation it is C/H/S 1974/16/63..

You could still use the card with the 512MB image.
