I'm using an ALIX 2D3 with pfSense 1.2.3 (I think).

Can I monitor traffic and see how much traffic that each connection is using?  (eg. each IP addresses and perhaps each actual connection that is established, etc)

Unfortunately, no.  Unless I'm missing something, they only show total traffic but I'd like a breakdown of traffic per IP address and possibly each connection that is currently open.

EDIT: I've tried adding darkstat to the nanobsd install but it doesn't seem to work right.  I've also tried to install vnstat but it seems to freeze at the "Executing custom_php_install_command()…" step.

Do I have any other options?

I'm not sure which work on NanoBSD and which don't, but there are plenty of options to try:
