It might, I'm not sure if anyone has tried it. If you were really, really careful about which rules you load, it might work.

I think it is also wise if you use lowmem settings for RAM usage.

          Current network "hardware" :
          Running 2.2RC in Virtualbox 4.2.16.

          Retired:
ALIX2C2 , 4 gigabyte disk cf card running 2.0 (official release).

            got the following error

Warning: fopen(/usr/local/etc/snort/threshold.conf): failed to open stream: Read-only file system in /usr/local/pkg/snort.inc on line 993 Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /usr/local/pkg/snort.inc:993) in /usr/local/www/pkg_edit.php on line 35

it installed fine. i was on the tab. inserted oinkcode. when to save settings and that error popped up

It probably needs to be adjusted to work on nanobsd then.

Any time it expects to write to the filesystem it will need to set the CF as read/write and then read only when finished. The current maintainer of the snort package is actively working on it, so he may be able to make those changes rather easily.

what is about performance of this small board? i think the embedded cpu with its 500mhz, cannot handle much bandwith with snort running????

If you use the lowmem setting and are very careful about the rulesets, it should be fine.

I committed some fixes to the snort package last night to make it work on NanoBSD. It worked fine on my ALIX. Rules updated and everything.

thanks alot. just tested it works great.

however it would be great if someone could compile a list of categories that will work without stressing the ram etc.

There are probably too many combinations of rules to ever come up with a complete list.

Trial and error may be your best bet.
