We use PFSense at an open wifi hotspot as a firewall with a captive portal.
Unfortunately, our hotspot is becoming too hot - too many users in the building!!

We need some way of limiting the number of concurrent users on the wifi service. As we are open access we have no account details to use for authentication. Also reducing the DHCP scope is not a solution as uses can still see our SSID and just get frustrated when they do not get an IP address.
Would be good if we could also limit the duration a MAC address was connected (e.g. 1 hour per day).

Is there any methods to limit the number of users on the network concurrently.

      regards,
      Mark

Until someone gives a more elegant solution, you could always cut the number of available DHCP leases down to the maximum number of users you want on there concurrently.

The patch for this is pretty simple to implement.
