Poor ping in L4D2 listening server.
-
Ok, I am have a strange problem with L4D2. I recently upgraded from a Dlink DIR-655 router to a home-built Pfsense router. Before my pfsense router I could play and host L4D2 (local/listening server) with decent pings. All my friends always got pings <100 with an average of about 30-50. Now, after installing the pfsense router people are getting pings >300! Even my friend who is on the same ISP hub as me gets 100+ pings when he always use to get 12. I also cannot connect to other peoples listening servers without getting really high pings as well. When I run a dedicated server for TF2 on my network people can connect to it and get good pings so it is not a ISP issue.
Important info:
I have set up static outbound port forwarding for the listening server.
I also run a Source Dedicated server (on a difference PC/LAN IP) and everybody gets good pings from it. All the appropriate ports are forwarded to that server and it works fine.
I have a 50/1 Mbps connection

Nobody has any suggestions?

Not without any clues. What hardware are you using with pfSense. What is the CPU load, interrupt rate, packets per second, etc? What else are you running on the pfSense server?

Hardware is overkill, 1.8Ghz AMD 939 with 1GB ram on a NF4 board. CPU load is nothing most times. Using dual intel Pro 1000 nics. Only packages installed are NUT and VNSTAT. UPNP is enabled and so is DHCP. I have also followed the guides for static ports for hosting a steam server. Everything else is standard/default. Connection is 50/1 . Anything else?

And the version of pfSense?

Sorry, newest version (1.2.3 release), full install to HDD.
