Having ping and openVPN questions.
-
I have to have a rule mis-set.
I have my NAS set to a static IP but even gear set with DHCP doesn't ping by name, well it does but all with the same (out of my subnet) address. I can ping by IP just fine.
Also when using OpenVPN, I can't access my NAS unit even by IP address.
Any ideas?

Hard to even guess without more information, but here are a few things to try:
a) Make sure the NAS has your pfSense router as its gateway
b) Make sure the NAS is configured to allow traffic from the OpenVPN subnet (some deny traffic from anything not explicitly configured) -
Thanks Jimp!
You are very kind and appreciated. The plot thickens: If I disconnect or yank the WAN line from my router, all my pings and DNS resolutions work correctly, as soon as I am reconnected to the internet the wierd rounting starts happening again.
Any ideas all?

Not without more info. You'll need to supply the output of "netstat -rn" from a shell or Diagnostics > Command, and the output of "ifconfig -a" might also be helpful.
